Running a Marathon
Written by Administrator

It is in the last few miles of a marathon that one feels some of the worst pain they'll ever feel in life. At about  the 20th mile, the tired body gets depleted of last supply of glycogen, the fuel that keeps a runner on the path to the finish line, and from then on it is a battle where the body is constantly screaming to stop. Runners whose bodies have not adapted to burn the stored fat hit the wall and find themselves running on guts alone.

People are known to get into a state of delirium. But one keeps running as there is nothing that can now keep them away from that feeling of achievement of crossing the finish line.

If that is not enough to keep an ordinary mortal away from such a sport; add to it the countless years of running monotonous long distances in preparation and getting injured and then recovering to get injured again.

We all need goals as the euphoria that comes from achieving a difficult personal goal is the most rewarding experience in life.

Over the last weekend one of our own, Kamal Goswami (1212), achieved a longtime personal dream of running a Marathon. As he said, all the extra rounds of the oval during PT, while at school, made the difference. Kamal completed the Niagara Falls International Marthon on Sunday October 26th in 4 hours and 25 minutes (better than his personal goal of running it in 4 hours 30 minutes). Kamal is an avid runner who has been preparing for this event and has run in several half marathons and other long distances before.

Here is his track record thus far.
